Tweed Shire Council callout for community advisors
TWEED Shire Council is inviting residents to play a vital role in the future of Tweed by joining one of the Council’s Advisory Committees.
Expressions of Interest are now open for positions on four committees, which offer residents the opportunity to provide advice and recommendations to the Council.
Mayor of Tweed Shire, Chris Cherry, said the committees were critical to the Council’s decision-making process.
“Councillors take the advice and recommendations from our Advisory Committees very seriously,”
she said.
“Committee members provide knowledge, skills and experience to help us make informed decisions that best serve the interests of the Tweed community.”
Four advisory committees are open for expressions of interest.
The Equal Access Advisory Committee provides advice and recommendations on access and inclusion across various Council projects.
The Floodplain Management Advisory Committee advises on developing and implementing the NSW floodplain risk management process across the Tweed Shire.
The Tweed Coast Koala Advisory Committee aims to ensure broad community representation and inter-agency involvement in implementing the Tweed Coast Koala Plan of Management.
The Tweed Coast and Waterways Advisory Committee provides advice and recommendations on ecological health, coastal hazard risk and recreational use of the coast and waterways.
Separate Expressions of Interest applications will open at a later stage for Management Committees to advise the Council on a range of programs.
Community members with relevant expertise are appointed every four years for the Council term.
Cr Cherry thanked the committee members who dedicated their time and expertise to serving over the last term.
“We greatly appreciate the contributions of past committee members and now invite members to join us in shaping the community’s future,” she said.
Advisory Committee expressions of interest will close on Monday, August 12.
