AS part of National Volunteer Week, the Council is hosting the Tweed Shire Council Volunteer Expo on Tuesday, May 20.
The event will feature a range of opportunities, including with cultural facilities, community events and the natural environment.
Staff will be available to talk with potential volunteers for the Tweed Regional Gallery and the Tweed Regional Museum, as well as events like the Tweed Seniors Festival and nature care groups like Landcare and Dunecare.
Manager of Inclusive and Creative Communities, Shannon Carruth, said volunteering was for everyone, including young people building their futures and retirees seeking to stay connected.
“The Volunteer Expo is an invitation to grow your skills, meet new people, or simply give back,” Carruth said.
“It will help you find a volunteer role in your community that fits your life and your passions.”

Mayor of Tweed Shire Chris Cherry said the week would be an important opportunity to reflect on the power of community connection.
“Volunteers are the quiet champions of our community – showing up when it matters most,” Cr Cherry said.
“Thank you to all those who give their time to respond to emergencies, patrol our coastline, or restore our natural spaces.
“These dedicated people also bring life to our Gallery, Museum, local charity shops, animal shelters, sports clubs, community facilities, and events; their impact is everywhere.
“Today, and every day, we recognise their efforts and say thank you,” she said.
National Volunteer Week, running from May 19 – 25, is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering. This year’s theme, ‘Connecting Communities,’ recognises the vital role volunteering plays in bringing people together and strengthening community ties.
The expo at the Tweed Heads South Community Centre begins at 12 pm.
