Volunteers needed to help run Lismore clothes swap
FAMILIES in need are turning to a growing clothes swap at Lismore Library, run by local mothers and volunteers.
Volunteer organiser Katerina Crandon said more than 100 people were now using the Baby and Toddler Clothes Swap, with the next event to be held on September 13.
Long tables are piled with donated clothes from newborn to size five, along with baby linen and accessories, all freely available to anyone who needs them.
“After the floods, volunteers saw parents struggling to meet the simplest needs, like clothing their babies,” Crandon said.
“That’s when a group of mums came together to start sharing what we had.
“Four years later, the swap has grown into a tradition that’s about love, resilience and standing together as a community.
“Every smiling child, every parent who leaves with clothes they needed – that’s what keeps us going.”
The swaps take place on the second Saturday of each school term month, alongside the Lismore Toy Library.
Lismore Library manager Michael Lewis said they were delighted to see such a strong community spirit.
“This project is proof that when our community comes together, wonderful things happen,” he said.
“We are so proud to provide a space where families can connect, share resources, and make life a little easier.”
The organisers are calling for new volunteers to help sort donations, set up and pack down, and keep the swap running smoothly.
Families are invited to attend with no donation required to participate.
“This project only works because of volunteers and community spirit,” Crandon said.
“If you want to be part of something joyful that makes a real difference, we’d love to welcome you to the team.”
There will be another two swap meets this year on November 8 and December 13 between 9am and 11.30am.
