Wandering into wonder

MURWILLUMBAH’S inaugural Proudfoots Lane Street Party drew a big crowd on Saturday night, as families turned out to enjoy live performances, food vans and vibrant street art.

The event transformed the centre of town with colour, lights and community activities, celebrating the latest public art installations and creative projects.

Tweed Shire mayor Chris Cherry said the night had a fantastic family atmosphere.

“Business Murwillumbah can be incredibly proud of bringing this event, made by the community, for the community – it was incredible to see how people came out to enjoy the street party,” Cr Cherry said.

“So much colour and connection happening, it felt like one big family get-together. Amazing work.”

The street party was supported by Tweed Shire Council and the NSW Government as part of a Community Improvement District (CID) pilot project led by Business Murwillumbah.

NSW Minister for Small Business Janelle Saffin said the Connect Murwillumbah project had delivered strong results.”This collaboration between local businesses, creatives, community groups and government has seen a boost to the local economy with increased daily spending in the town centre of $529,000 in the 12 months to February 2025,” Saffin said.

“Its success can also be measured in the popularity of events like the Proudfoots Lane Party last Saturday, the upcoming Modern Grocer and Gin Experience Pop-ups fortnightly on Fridays from May 30 and the vibrant public art on display in and around Proudfoots Lane.”
