BYRON All Shorts is calling for filmmakers from throughout the Northern Rivers to submit their entries for the annual short film competition.

The finalists’ screening and awards ceremony will be held alongside the Flickerfest International Short Film Festival tour at the Mullumbimby Civic Hall from February 26 to 28, with a local jury of film industry experts awarding more than $3,000 in prizes.

The local screening is one of the first stops on the tour after the star-studded 10-day Flickerfest event takes place at Bondi Beach this month.

The event is presented by the Island Quarry Association (iQ Inc), which formed in the 1990s and manages the former Island Quarry site. The association aims to develop the site into an eco-arts and community centre for sustainable living, showcasing local arts, environmental practices, and cultural heritage.

“We will select around 12 shorts again for 2026 from across the region to be shared in a feature-length program of approximately 110 mins,” iQ Inc chairperson Shane Rennie said.

Last year’s Byron All Shorts winner, writer-director Sam Clarke, was recognised for his film Suvira. His latest project, titled Light in Dark Places, was recently selected for the FlickerUp youth and schools competition at Flickerfest.

Rennie said the event provides a unique opportunity to showcase emerging filmmakers.

“Local filmmakers get to shine on the big screen alongside their peers from across the world,” he said. “They get to share their films with audiences – sometimes for the first time – and get noticed by the industry, developing their careers.

“The film quality and storytelling on offer at Flickerfest and Byron All Shorts is world-class and the event is great fun and a great way to connect with the community over a fabulous weekend of cinema.”
