TWEED Shire Council will host an invasive animal identification workshop at Pottsville Environment Centre this weekend to help residents manage species threatening local ecosystems.
Invasive animals can damage biodiversity, agricultural land and natural habitats.
Council has engaged pest animal specialists from Wedgetail Solutions to run the session following a similar workshop in Murwillumbah earlier this month.
Council’s pest animals wildlife protection program leader Pamela Gray said the workshop would help landholders and community groups improve their skills.
“We’re delivering this workshop to build the skills and confidence of landholders and community groups,” she said.
“We welcome all residents who would like to strengthen their skills in identifying and managing pest animals.”
Participants will learn how to identify species known to impact the Tweed region, including foxes, feral cats, wild rabbits and feral deer.
The workshop will be held at Pottsville Environment Centre on March 14 from 9am to 12pm.
