Local surfers to represent region at Australian Surf Championships
SURFERS from the Northern Rivers will represent the state in bodyboarding and shortboard surfing divisions at the 2024 Australian Surf Championships in Port Macquarie.
The event, which launched on Wednesday (July 31) will bring together top talent from across the country to compete in various surfing disciplines.
The region’s representatives include Bodi Hugin from Upper Coopers Creek, Kai Sauge from Skennars Head, and Dane Henry from Fingal Head.
Hugin and Sauge will compete in the Australian Bodyboard Titles, with events scheduled at various beaches in Port Macquarie.
The bodyboarding events will test competitors’ skills in manoeuvring and wave riding.
Dane Henry will compete in the Open Men’s division of the Australian Shortboard Titles.
The Fingal Heads youngster was recently the winner of the 2024 Skullcandy Pro Junior at Lennox Head and will be looking to add an Australian title to his honours.
Surfing Australia chief executive Chris Mater said he was thrilled to see the return of the Australian Surf Championships 2024 with hundreds of surfers set to compete across three disciplines of surfing: shortboard, para and bodyboard.
“Last year we saw pumping conditions throughout the competition, and we expect epic waves again in 2024,” Mater said.
“We invite all surfing fans to join us and cheer on many of the country’s most talented athletes as they battle it out in the hopes of being crowned a national champion.”
Entry to the Australian Titles is by state qualification or invitation.
