Paris Olympics: Aussies in action on Day 14 and Day 13 results

MAJOR AUSTRALIAN MEDAL HOPES

Australia’s own B-girl Raygun – Rachael Gunn – will battle it out for a place in the breaking final on the sport’s Olympic debut.

Australia’s beach volleyball superstars Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Teliqua Clancy will fight for bronze against Switzerland after falling to Brazil in the women’s beach volleyball semi-final.

Maddison Keeney is Australia’s best chance at an Olympic diving medal after making the women’s 3m springboard final.

Kyle Lee and Nick Sloman are prepped and primed to follow in the footsteps of silver medallist Moesha Johnson as they get ready for the men’s 10km marathon swim.

At the velodrome, Australia’s Matthew Richardson will have to fight for a spot in the men’s sprint final as he takes on the Netherlands Jeffrey Hoogland in the semi-finals.

OTHER AUSTRALIANS IN ACTION

The Opals are looking to make history against the United States in their women’s basketball semi-final with Aussie Alanna Smith declaring it’s time to “take them down a peg”.

Australia’s golf duo Minjee Lee and Hannah Green begin round three with Lee looking to make in-roads on Swiss leader Morgane Metraux.

After their quarter final exit, the Sharks will play Greece to determine their final men’s water polo place, hoping for fifth.

Australia will be looking to make an impact in the women’s madison final at the velodrome after qualifying eighth.

Aussies Lauren Ryan and Connor Murphy will be looking to continue Australia’s success in track and field as Ryan starts in the women’s 10,000m final and Murphy in the men’s triple jump final.

Australia will star in the men’s 89kg weightlifting with Kyle Bruce our best chance at a podium position and in the women’s 71kg weightclass Jacqueline Nichele is looking to clinch an Olympic medal on her Games debut.

WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING

The blockbuster men’s football final between Olympic hosts France and Spain has plenty riding on it: France looking to win their first Olympic title in 40 years, while Spain will try to go one better on their Tokyo silver.

Algeria’s Imane Khelif will be looking to silence her haters and shift the spotlight by winning Olympic gold in her women’s welterweight boxing final against China’s Yang Liu.

Defending Olympic champions the Netherlands will be looking to go back-to-back against China in the women’s hockey final.

How the Aussies fared on Day 13

SILVER

Moesha Johnson (women’s marathon swim) – Johnson is now Australia’s most successful Olympic marathon swimmer after winning silver just behind the Netherlands’ Sharon van Rouwendaal in a dramatic finish.

Riley Fitzsimmons, Jackson Collins, Pierre van der Westhuyzen and Noah Havard (men’s K4 500m kayak sprint) – The boys have clinched an Olympic silver medal edged out by sprint kayak powerhouse Germany.

BRONZE

Charlie Senior (men’s 57kg boxing) – At just the age of 22, the young British-born boxer has won an Olympic bronze in his debut Games, going down to Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokov in the semi-final.

Caitlin Parker – (women’s 75kg boxing) – Australia’s boxing team captain failed to knock down China’s Li Qian in the semi-final but will be happy to come away with a bronze.

OTHER HEADLINE GOLD MEDALLISTS

American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has smashed her own 400m hurdles world record and destroyed Dutch rival Femke Bol to win Olympic gold a classy style.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem has made history for his country, becoming the first ever Pakistani Olympic track and field champion and grabbing Pakistan’s first medal in 32 years by taking out top spot in the men’s javelin.

WHAT ELSE HAPPENED

Australia’s best chance at another athletics Olympic gold medal is through to the women’s 1500m final as Jessica Hull declares that she has a legitimate chance of pinching the top spot on the podium.

The Aussie Stingers have pulled off a major upset, beating three-time defending champions the United States in a dramatic penalty shootout 14-13 to make their way into the gold medal match.

Aussie beach volleyball duo Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar are out of the Olympic gold medal contention after going down 2-1 against Brazil but will have a chance to nab a medal in the bronze medal match.

Australia’s golden girl Jessica Fox will represent athletes on the International Olympic Committee for the next eight years after being voted in by her peers.

The Kookaburra’s Tom Craig continues to deal with the fallout following his cocaine arrest, with the Olympian set to meet with his professional club Germany’s Hamburg Polo Club to determine his punishment.
