Season starts for Tweed triathletes
THE Tweed triathlon season begins on September 28, with runs from October through to March.
The first of two qualifying events for senior and intermediate athletes opens for registration at 5.30am for the 6 am event. The junior (Tri-mites) season begins on October 12.
Organisers are reminding all competitors to check their gear, including front and rear bike lights, as events ramp up after the winter break.
Participants must renew their membership with AustTriathlon and Tweed Valley Triathletes before competing. The standard membership includes entrance fees to club events; however, non-members can participate with an $8 one-day license.
Club updates include the following: As part of the handicap system, the base time for each category will increase by two minutes for senior, intermediate, open, and female categories.
In addition, the club has introduced an aqua bike event for competitors who do not want or are unable to do the run leg. Swim and cycle legs will be the same distance as senior events at a 500m swim and a 14km cycle.
All events have manual timekeeping as a backup to the electronic timing system. Long-standing timekeeper Janice Goudkamp is unavailable for a short period, and the club is currently seeking volunteers to assist with the role temporarily.
