THE TWEED Regional Museum Street Party, celebrating the museum’s 20th birthday on Saturday, August 31, is set to be the biggest street event in Murwillumbah.<\/p>\n

The event will sprawl through the streets from the museum’s epicentre and features live music, a makers’ market, collaborative public art, food, a beer garden, trivia, kids’ entertainment, public artwork, flash mobs, and a crowd dance.<\/p>\n

A high point is the return of the Tweed Valley Banana Festival Float, with its regal throne and Banana Queens.<\/p>\n

Museum Director Molly Green said the day celebrated the Tweed’s uniqueness, heritage, culture, and creativity.<\/p>\n

“There is something for everyone to experience and enjoy,” Ms Green said.<\/p>\n

“We invite everyone to come down and enjoy the magic of the Tweed with us \u2013 and, of course, to say happy birthday to our state-of-the-art regional museum that is so loved by our community and beyond.”<\/p>\n

Inspired by the Tweed’s people, places, biodiversity, and history, a Six Seasons Cultural Calendar event and a Connect with Country session will be held with Bundjalung elder Uncle Franc.<\/p>\n

At the Story Salon and Museum on Wheels, browse the library, chat with members of the Murwillumbah Historical Society, jump on a typewriter, and contribute to a collaborative long-form story.<\/p>\n

Collaborative public artwork Face-to-Face, led by Tamsin Ainslie and Leith Walton, will celebrate the diverse faces of the Tweed, and Tweed Tales Trivia will test local knowledge between tall tales and true.<\/p>\n

Louise and Kyra Togo lead weaving demonstrations of ti-leaf leis and bangles, exploring the history and cultural impact of the South Sea Islander\u202fcommunity on the Tweed.<\/p>\n

Music on the main stage comes from Lazy Ghost, Blackline, Bella Amor, Tomorrow’s Forecast, Love Banana, The Jacks, and Ben Whiting.<\/p>\n

For junior partygoers, children’s entertainer Shorty Brown will spin a DJ set at the Jam Van from Tweed Holiday Parks, and the kids’ Adventure Game is back with new puzzles and activities.<\/p>\n

Oki Foods, Kat Harvey Cheese, Yulli’s, Khanthaly’s Kitchen, Flyin’ Fox Icy Poles, and a Swamp Beer Garden by Spangled Drongo and the Gin Experience offer something for all tastes.<\/p>\n
