REGISTRATIONS are open for the immersive multi-day event showcasing Indigenous leadership and excellence in disaster resilience from September 24 \u2013 26 in Lismore.<\/p>\n

The National Indigenous Disaster Resilience (NIDR) Gathering 2024 will feature speakers Koori Mail CEO Naomi Moran and Dr Amy Cardinale Christianson, with a complete program of speakers over three days.<\/p>\n

The program held on Bundjalung Country highlights the resilience, emergency management, community recovery and Caring for Country of the First Nations communities. It aims to celebrate excellence with keynote addresses, panel discussions, workshops, on-Country activities, food, music, art and collaboration.<\/p>\n

Representatives from disaster resilience and emergency management sectors, government, researchers, non-government organisations, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, Indigenous ranger groups, Native Title groups, and other land and water management organisations are invited to attend the event to share knowledge, connect, and support an Indigenous-led conversation.<\/p>\n

The On-Country program includes an optional choice of activity from a rich list of experiences.<\/p>\n

Delta Kay leads the Explore Byron Bay Tour and includes the story of Nguthungalli (Julian Rocks), information about Walgun (Cape Byron) and the thousand-year-old midden.<\/p>\n

For those interested in learning about cultural burning practices, the Dorrobbee Grass tour explores the crown land parcel managed by the Dorrobbee Grass Reserve Trust in partnership with the Ngulingah Aboriginal Land Council, one of the region’s best-preserved stands of Kangaroo Grass.<\/p>\n

Rous County Council Water will host the Rocky Creek Dam tour for those interested in bird watching, walking, habitat restoration and water security.<\/p>\n

Led by Resilient Lismore’s Elly Bird, Discover Lismore’s Resilience Flood Impact Tour will delve into the town’s river story, the dramatic heights of the recent floods, and the impact on the resilient community.<\/p>\n

A Silk Scarf Making workshop with Norton Fredericks will be an engaging session merging art, science, and environmental care.<\/p>\n

Participants in the Cultural Landscapes Tour of the Ballina Area, led by Uncle Marcus Ferguson will better understand active cultural landscapes in the Ballina area and includes a lunchtime barbeque and swim at Shaw’s Bay.<\/p>\n
