THE Currumbin Creek Paddlers Club (CCPC) will host the Chinderah Chase Paddle Marathon on the Tweed River at Chinderah on Sunday, October 6.<\/p>\n

The race is the second event to be held on the Tweed River and is the final event of the eight-race Pacific Coast Marathon Series.<\/p>\n

CCPC president Peter Hickey said that the popular event had been part of the series over the past few years and offered an opportunity for northern NSW paddlers to participate in another local event.<\/p>\n

“For anyone contemplating taking up paddling, it offers participants a sport that can be taken on seriously or simply as a fun and healthy on-water activity,” Hickey said.<\/p>\n

“The club has a great social atmosphere with members of all ages from pre-teens up to those actively paddling in their seventies.”<\/p>\n

The race’s start and finish lines will be opposite the Cubby Bakehouse on Chinderah Bay Road, with ample parking for participants and interested spectators.<\/p>\n

Paddlers have a choice of 5, 10 or 15 km distances of a five-kilometre figure-of-eight course upstream around two small islands in the river.<\/p>\n

The event is open to various non-motorised craft including ocean skis, racing kayaks, outriggers and SUPs.<\/p>\n

Newcomers can sample the sport in a three-session Introduction to Ocean Ski Paddling course held on Saturdays at 9am after regular Saturday morning paddles in Currumbin. Club boats are available for use by members trying out the sport.<\/p>\n

Registration for the Chinderah Chase is now open and closes at noon on Wednesday, October 2.<\/p>\n
