ONE new councillor will join an experienced team of representatives on Tweed Council in 2024 after preference distributions on Tuesday, this week.<\/p>\n

Elected councillors for the upcoming term are Chris Cherry, Reece Byrnes, James Owen, Rhiannon Brinsmead, Meredith Dennis, Nola Firth and new council representative Kimberly Hone.<\/p>\n

Council general manager Troy Green congratulated the elected councillors.<\/p>\n

“We are eager to work collaboratively with the new team as we navigate the opportunities and challenges of the coming term,” Mr Green said.<\/p>\n

“We have more than $1 billion in capital infrastructure works planned over the next five years.<\/p>\n

“These include raising the Clarrie Hall Dam wall, major housing and retail developments in the pipeline, and continuing our significant flood recovery works program.”<\/p>\n

The councillors will take their oaths or affirmations of office next Thursday, October 10, followed by an extraordinary meeting and vote to fill the roles of mayor and deputy mayor.<\/p>\n

Of the 71,582 electors registered in the Tweed Shire, 54,589 ballots were cast, representing a voter turnout of 76 per cent.<\/p>\n
