{"id":102330,"date":"2024-10-12T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-11T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/?p=102330"},"modified":"2024-10-09T20:26:26","modified_gmt":"2024-10-09T09:26:26","slug":"salvos-launch-free-local-dinners-in-byron","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/news\/salvos-launch-free-local-dinners-in-byron\/","title":{"rendered":"Salvos launch free local dinners in Byron"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW community partnership in Byron Bay is providing free meals for people experiencing disadvantage as part of a national program that has already served over 44,000 meals across Australia.<\/p>\n<p>National food franchise Grill&#8217;d is offering free meals on the first Tuesday of each month from 5pm, in collaboration with organisations such as The Salvation Army, Vinnies, Fletcher Street Cottage and Liberation Larder.<\/p>\n<p>The event takes place at Grill&#8217;d Byron Bay and aims to create a space where vulnerable individuals can enjoy a meal and connect with others.<\/p>\n<p>Senior pastor and leader of Northern Rivers Salvos captain Philip Sutcliffe said the need was great.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The simplicity of having a hot meal and sharing in a community goes a long way in helping our rough sleeper community know they aren&#8217;t alone,&#8221; Mr Sutcliffe said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_103713\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-103713\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-103713\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/10\/Grilld5_96235.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-103713\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grill&#8217;d highlights its &#8216;Local Matters&#8217; program at the store&#8217;s entrance. Photo: DAVID COPE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will help make people doing it tough feel loved and cared for, creating a sense of dignity and hope for everyone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Grill&#8217;d regional general manager Jason Simms said the monthly event provides an opportunity for meaningful connection.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a safe space for folks experiencing disadvantage to enjoy a meal and other people&#8217;s company in a public place with dignity,&#8221; Mr Simms said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We take the time to sit down and chat with patrons and foster meaningful connections. We want everyone to feel seen and heard.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We provided 70 meals across the first night and connected with each guest who came in.
