AN IN-CONVERSATION event at M|Arts on November 21 will explore the impacts and repercussions of the United States election.<\/p>\n

‘The Politics of Life: This Stuff Matters’ explores the current political environment with academic, author and founder of Griffith Review Julianne Shultz in conversation with journalist, author and gallery director Judith White.<\/p>\n

The American election may be on the other side of the globe, yet the final result will have significant consequences for the world \u2013 including Australia.<\/p>\n

Subtitled ‘Phew or Spew? What the US election means for you, me, and everything on the planet’, the event will provide insights on living life amid chaos, confusion and uncertainty.<\/p>\n

Ms Schultz is an academic, author and founding editor of the Australian literary and current affairs journal Griffith Review.<\/p>\n

Her latest book, The Idea of Australia: A Search for the Soul of the Nation, goes to the very heart of what the nation has and could become.<\/p>\n

She is professor emerita media and culture at Griffith University, is on the Sydney Writers Festival board and writes a fortnightly column for The Guardian.<\/p>\n

She is working on a television adaptation of her book, The Idea of Australia, with Blackfella Films for broadcast on the SBS.<\/p>\n

Tweed Shire local Judith White was born in Lancashire, England and holds two degrees from Oxford University.<\/p>\n

She worked in left-wing publishing in London before moving to Australia in 1986.<\/p>\n

Ms White has been the literary editor of The Sun-Herald, executive director of the Art Gallery Society of New South Wales, and is the author of three books \u2013 Art Lovers: A History of the Art Gallery Society of NSW; Culture Heist: Art vs Money; and Children of Coal: A Migrant’s Story.<\/p>\n

Double bassist, pianist and songwriter Andrew Malynowsky, who appears regularly with Luna Junction, Sali Bracewell, Latin Goldie and the Caldera Chamber Orchestra, will perform live on the night.<\/p>\n
