{"id":103212,"date":"2024-11-24T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-23T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/?p=103212"},"modified":"2024-11-20T20:27:05","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T09:27:05","slug":"top-community-award-for-jack-evans-boat-harbour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/news\/top-community-award-for-jack-evans-boat-harbour\/","title":{"rendered":"Top community award for Jack Evans Boat Harbour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TWEED Shire Council&#8217;s transformation of Jack Evans Boat Harbour into a vibrant, inclusive community space has earned it the NSW Government Council Crown Land Management Excellence Award.<\/p>\n<p>The honour was presented earlier this month at the 2024 Community Achievement Awards for NSW and the ACT, recognising the revitalisation project&#8217;s success in creating an urban parkland that fosters recreation, connection, and healthy living.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Chris Cherry said the recognition reflected the collaborative effort behind the project.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jack Evans Boat Harbour is a great spot for swimming and relaxed recreation,&#8221; Cr Cherry said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Transforming this park while being true to what the community wants has ensured it has become even more loved than before.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s great for the team&#8217;s work to be recognised like this. Congratulations to everyone involved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Jack Evans Boat Harbour precinct has received several revitalisation projects over the past two years.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/11\/JackEvansBoatHarbour_96543.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new youth precinct at Jack Evans Boat Harbour includes skating elements and a half basketball court. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They include a regional inclusive play space known as Goorimahbah Place of Stories and a dedicated youth recreation area including a half-basketball court and skate area.<\/p>\n<p>The project replaced ageing timber decking with tiered composite decking, installed shade structures and umbrellas to improve sun protection and added accessible seating, picnic facilities, and public art.<\/p>\n<p>Improved landscaping and additional tree plantings include natives reflecting Aboriginal cultural connections along with improved pathway connections and bike racks.<\/p>\n<p>The improvements were guided by the Jack Evans Boat Harbour Plan of Management, developed in consultation with the community to ensure the precinct meets current and future needs.<\/p>\n<p>The Council was also praised for its commitment to community engagement in designing a recreational space that residents can enjoy for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Cherry officially opened the revitalised park facilities earlier this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TWEED Shire Council&#8217;s transformation of Jack Evans Boat Harbour into a vibrant, inclusive community space has earned it the NSW Government Council Crown Land Management Excellence Award.
