AROUND 3,000 people are expected to gather for Riverside Carols at Ballina on Sunday 8 December.<\/p>\n

The alcohol-free event at Kingsford Smith Park will begin with performances from local preschools, schools and dance groups, before traditional carols are sung, led by a band of local musicians.<\/p>\n

It will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display.<\/p>\n

Glow sticks will be available for purchase and there will be a variety of food trucks in attendance, including Lennox Smokin’ Barrel, Big Nay’s Kebabs and Burgers, Gunter’s Flammkuchen, Pulp Burger, Sushi Wagon, Sweet Swirls Ice Cream and Tropical Sno Australia.<\/p>\n

Riverside Carols Committee chair Alison Parr said the event began 30 years ago in the backyard of a local church, with just 20 attendees.<\/p>\n

It is now hosted by the combined churches of Ballina and Lennox Head.<\/p>\n

“I love that it brings the local community together to sing carols and reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Our aim is to spread joy throughout the community by sharing the love of Jesus and celebrating His birth.”<\/p>\n

Riverside Carols will be held at Kingsford Smith Park, opposite Ballina Seagulls Football Club, from 6.30pm to 9pm on Sunday December 8. Gates open at 5.30pm.<\/p>\n
