{"id":103662,"date":"2024-12-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-14T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/?p=103662"},"modified":"2024-12-11T20:55:37","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T09:55:37","slug":"top-female-surfers-shine-at-casuarina-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/news\/top-female-surfers-shine-at-casuarina-camp\/","title":{"rendered":"Top female surfers shine at Casuarina camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FIVE of the best female surfers in the country gathered at Casuarina to take part in a three-day camp at the Surfing Australia high performance centre.<\/p>\n<p>Piper Harrison, Willow Hardy, India Robinson, Ruby Berry and Alysse Cooper were selected after their performances in the Hyundai She&#8217;s Electric online surf competition.<\/p>\n<p>The competition is open to all female athletes aged 16 and over throughout Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Participants submitted clips of their best wave, which were reviewed by Surfing Australia&#8217;s expert panel of female judges.<\/p>\n<p>The camp included surf analysis from some of Australia&#8217;s top surf coaches, surf-specific workshops and an overall winner receiving cash and prizes from Hyundai.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson won the event with the group attending the Surfing Australia awards on the Gold Coast as part of the camp.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2024\/12\/469686600_1847662644_85376.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tweed Heads surfer Dane Henry was named the men&#8217;s rising star at the Surfing Australia awards. Photo: SUPPLIED.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I love seeing more opportunities for females, especially in the surfing space,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My biggest passion outside of surfing is inspiring and empowering the next generation of females, so I love everything about this.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;(It&#8217;s) building a space for more girls to feel welcome in the surfing community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Byron Bay surfer Soli Bailey won two awards on the night.<\/p>\n<p>The former tour professional won the heavy water award for big-wave riding and surf clip of the year with Chris Peel.<\/p>\n<p>Tweed Heads surfers Dane Henry and Sierra Kerr won rising star awards.<\/p>\n<p>Henry was the junior pro men&#8217;s winner at the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open at Lennox Head earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Kerr won a WSL-sanctioned Qualifying Series event at Port Stephens in February.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FIVE of the best female surfers in the country gathered at Casuarina to take part in a three-day camp at the Surfing Australia high performance centre.
