Photos: DAVID COPE.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Event organiser Sam Wilson said the initiative focused on educating young people about the risks of smoking and vaping.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s mainly to do with vaping and smoking, children are one of our main target groups,&#8221; Wilson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to raise awareness and get the information out there so the kids can make their own choices.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/image00005_82434.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"464\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The kids were able to cover themselves in multiple colours at the event. Photo: DAVID COPE.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll usually have pamphlets and all sorts of information we can hand out.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is about connecting with the community and having a lot of fun.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The event featured obstacle courses, water slides and other activities as the kids were covered in the traditional food dye colouring.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/image00003_87004.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"479\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hands in the air for the big finale with the colour release.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Police officers and several community members and volunteers helped run or took part in the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were probably about 300 kids here at one point and it was just a shame we had to pack up a bit early because of the weather,&#8221; Wilson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had so many volunteers and organisations here helping that I can&#8217;t even name them all.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/image00001_87603.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Community groups helped cook the barbecue at the colour run.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The kids all helped with packing up and we were able to clean everything up quickly, which was nice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wilson was pleased the event attracted children from Casino, Lismore and Maclean.<\/p>\n<p>The health service will continue to run its smoking program with school and other events throughout the year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS of children and parents embraced healthy living at the annual Bullinah Aboriginal Health Service Colour Run at Saunders Oval.
