Photo: DAVID COPE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re aiming to attract a broader audience because we&#8217;re very much a locals&#8217; hub.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tillett said many people share stories with him about the venue, and he believes the hotel&#8217;s walls hold many untold stories.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/CCH2_69868.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The gals are ready to celebrate 125 years, through all the eras. Photo: DAVID COPE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought there was so much history here, so I asked the Tweed Museum to help trace the hotel&#8217;s history,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He discovered it was first registered in 1899, and the original license was issued to George Skinner on February 13, 1900. Skinner<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107189\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107189\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-107189\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/CHH1924_25601_tn.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"373\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-107189\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A 1924 streetscape of the iconic hotel. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ultimately relinquished the license to his brother Benjamin, who changed the name to Skinner&#8217;s Hotel in 1909. After a series of changes, the Courthouse Hotel regained its name in 1920 when George B McClymont took over the license. Tillett, who grew up in Perth, said he was drawn to Northern NSW for its sense of community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Living and working in a town of this size feels very natural,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107190\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107190\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-107190\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/01\/CHH1959_25624_tn.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"439\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-107190\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The beginning of mid century modernity in 1959.
