{"id":104533,"date":"2025-01-29T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-28T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/?p=104533"},"modified":"2025-01-22T22:06:40","modified_gmt":"2025-01-22T11:06:40","slug":"free-training-to-help-use-restricted-pesticides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/news\/free-training-to-help-use-restricted-pesticides\/","title":{"rendered":"Free training to help use restricted pesticides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW training program will help landholders use restricted pesticides to help manage pest animals on properties across the region.<\/p>\n<p>North Coast Local Land Services is helping deliver the Vertebrate Pesticide Induction Training course which features more interactive elements, better visuals and improved accessibility.<\/p>\n<p>Local Land Services&#8217; principal program manager biosecurity, Jake Tanner, said the upgraded course made it easier for landholders to gain the certification.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As with all our pest control programs, we want as many landholders as possible to participate to ensure the best results,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re encouraging landholders to attend one of our face-to-face training sessions or save time and complete the course online.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The program has had success across the state with some farmers using trapping nets (pictured) as a successful way to catch large numbers of feral pigs.<\/p>\n<p>All landholders must hold an AQF3 Chemical Accreditation or VPIT certification to acquire and use pesticides and bait products for feral pigs, rabbits, wild dogs and foxes.<\/p>\n<p>Training must be updated every five years to acquire and use certain chemicals on land.<\/p>\n<p>The pesticides training is a free course funded by the 2023-24 Feral Pig Program, and can be done in person or online.<\/p>\n<p>The course covers legal responsibilities, safety requirements and practical considerations for the safe and effective use of baits and pesticides.<\/p>\n<p>People interested in participating in coordinated pest control programs should contact their nearest Local Land Services office on 1300 795 299.<\/p>\n<p>The pesticides training program can be accessed at <a href=\"http:\/\/tocal.nsw.edu.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tocal.nsw.edu.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A NEW training program will help landholders use restricted pesticides to help manage pest animals on properties across the region.
