THE third and final stage of Murwillumbah\u2019s riverside Budd Park upgrade has begun, following the completion of the first two stages in late 2024.<\/p>\n
Work completed so far includes demolishing the flood-prone World Heritage Rainforest Centre (also known as Murwillumbah\u2019s Visitor Information Centre), removing the internal access road linking the two existing car parks, and building a new car park next to the Riverview Hotel.<\/p>\n
The final focus is enhancing the parkland with new features including accessible picnic settings, seating, barbeques, shelters, pathways, bike racks, and public art.<\/p>\n
The revitalisation work aims to improve aesthetic and recreational offerings for the park, creating a vibrant space for outdoor activities and family and community gatherings.<\/p>\n
The Council expects Budd Park to be completed by May 2025, weather permitting.<\/p>\n
The project is part of the $15.5 million program to restore and enhance community assets impacted by storms and floods, focusing on improving accessibility and flood resilience.<\/p>\n
The Council is also upgrading 14 other flood-impacted car parks throughout the Tweed Shire over the next 12 months.<\/p>\n
Improvements include internal access road repairs, drainage improvements, car park pavement repairs and resealing, pathways and access enhancements such as accessible parking bays and tree planting.<\/p>\n
