THE New South Wales Seniors Local Achievement Awards have honoured six local seniors in the Tweed.<\/p>\n
Seniors who make the shire shine and who go above and beyond for their community were highlighted at the opening of the recent Tweed Seniors Festival.<\/p>\n
Mary Bale was recognised for her dedication to an active lifestyle, vibrant spirit, and inspirational presence within the community, particularly at the Pottsville\u00a0Tennis Club.<\/p>\n
Jennie Leathley was honoured for her generous volunteerism, contributions to the Community Transport Company, and unwavering willingness to help people and the community around her.<\/p>\n
Yvonne Malone was awarded for her work across various committees at the Tweed Heads Legacy Laurel Club, Tweed Heads War Widow Association, and the Fun Activities at Banora Seniors (FABS).<\/p>\n
Maria Bashford won her award for her volunteering with Tweed Palliative Support and FABS, her community dedication, and her creative talent, particularly as a violist.<\/p>\n
Ross Johnson was recognised for his long-standing service to the Anglican Parish of Murwillumbah, his contributions at Murwillumbah East Primary School, and his volunteer work providing music therapy at LifeBridge in Kingscliff.<\/p>\n
Greg Adams was recognised for having touched countless lives and awarded for his dedication to bringing joy as Santa Claus, shaping minds at Condong School P&C, and being part of the Tweed Valley Murwillumbah National Servicemen’s Association Sub Branch for over 25 years.<\/p>\n
The awards are a highlight element of the NSW Seniors Festival every year, the largest celebration of older people in the Southern Hemisphere.<\/p>\n
