AS National Volunteer Week gets underway, the NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is calling on residents in regional and rural communities to consider joining its ranks.<\/p>\n

The SES has more than 11,000 volunteers across the state, providing critical support before, during<\/p>\n

and after emergencies such as storms and floods.<\/p>\n

NSW SES Commissioner Mike Wassing AFSM said National Volunteer Week was an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of current members and encourage others to get involved.<\/p>\n

“Our volunteers are everyday people doing extraordinary things. They are part of the fabric of their towns and communities,” Commissioner Wassing said.<\/p>\n

“Volunteering with the NSW SES is a rewarding way to connect with others, develop new skills, and be there for your community when it matters.”<\/p>\n

Commissioner Wassing said the Service offers a range of roles to suit different lifestyles and interests.<\/p>\n

“Whether you’re interested in hands-on field work, community engagement, logistics, or support behind the scenes, there’s a role for you,” he said.<\/p>\n

“You don’t need previous experience \u2014 just a willingness to learn and a commitment to your community.”<\/p>\n

Communities are also being encouraged to wear orange this Wednesday, 21 May, to mark Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) \u2014 a national day of thanks for SES volunteers.<\/p>\n

“WOW Day is a moment to show visible appreciation for the volunteers who give their time and heart to help others,” Commissioner Wassing said.<\/p>\n

“We’d love to see our communities turn orange this Wednesday in support of their local NSW SES volunteers.”<\/p>\n

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme is “Something for Everyone” \u2014 a message the SES says reflects the wide range of opportunities available within the Service.<\/p>\n
