A COMMUNITY event which raises vital funds to purchase new equipment for one of the smallest schools in the region will light up the sky at the Newrybar Public School Bonfire and Fireworks Night.<\/p>\n
The event has been running for 36 years and is the school’s major fundraiser, driven by parents with the support of local businesses.<\/p>\n
It will feature a variety of arts, crafts, rides and a full night of entertainment on Saturday,August 2.<\/p>\n
Bec Robinson is part of the events fundraising committee and said community support is crucial with the money going directly back into the school.<\/p>\n
“From the success of previous years, we’ve been able to build a new playground, install chilled water bubblers to keep the kids cool, and funded a variety of enriching cultural, sporting, and educational programs, all thanks to community support,” Ms Robinson said.<\/p>\n
“The event is a lot of fun and a chance to sit up on the hill as a family and watch the fireworks.<\/p>\n
“I think we have almost 50 prizes in the raffle this year, which is where most of the fundraising happens.”<\/p>\n
This year the plan is to raise enough funds to install a shade cloth structure over its playground to create a cooler space for the summer months.<\/p>\n
They also want to add a new dedicated space on its oval with a pair of soccer goal posts.<\/p>\n
The event attracts up to 3500 people from around the region and highlights the community effort and charm of a small country school.<\/p>\n
There will be entertainment by DJ Shorty’s Disco, fairground rides, climbing wall, jumping castle, homemade cakes, hot food, drinks and desserts<\/p>\n
Parking is available along Broken Head Road and the Hinterland Way.<\/p>\n
Cash is encouraged with a family ticket costing $20, while the event will be alcohol free with no dogs allowed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
