THEY began busking as teenagers and formed a band while studying at university, and 15 years later Pink Zinc is still bringing their signature groove to the Northern Rivers.<\/p>\n

“The band officially formed in 2009 while we were studying at Southern Cross University, but the music started long before that,” vocalist Sarah Grant said. “We’d been busking on the streets of Byron Bay for years. It was all about connection, groove and good times, and that spirit still drives everything we do.”<\/p>\n

Grant grew up in Lismore, while her bandmates hail from everywhere from Ballina to Bangalow.<\/p>\n

“We’ve all been part of different bands and lineups over the years,” she said. “Pink Zinc Presents is like a supergroup of mates and musos who bring all that experience into one very fun, live package.<\/p>\n

“There’s a spark you can’t fake when you play with people you genuinely love. We laugh a lot on stage, we push each other musically and we leave space for magic. It’s not just a gig \u2013 it’s a jam, a joy and a celebration of live music.”<\/p>\n

Their high-energy setlist spans the 70s, 80s and 90s, as well as contemporary hits.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got a high-energy Tina Turner section that always brings the house down,” Grant said. “Throw in some Aussie rock, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac and a surprise or two, and you’ve got yourself a party.”<\/p>\n

While many band names were thrown around over the years, Pink Zinc is the one that stuck.<\/p>\n

“It reminds me of sunshine, surf, good vibes and not taking things too seriously \u2013 like throwing on some pink zinc and jumping into life with both feet,” Grant said.<\/p>\n

Grant said she’s excited for the band’s coming show at the Wharf River Club in Ballina on Sunday July 6. The gig will feature Mike Mills on bass guitar, Dave Sanders on drums and Harry Nichols on guitar and vocals.<\/p>\n

“It’s genuinely one of our favourites,” she said. “Playing out on the wharf with the river behind you, the sun setting and a crowd lounging on picnic rugs or cocktails at the Wharf Bar venue \u2013 it’s magic.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got a killer set prepped and we’re bringing the big PA \u2013 you’ll feel this one in your bones. Expect big energy, singalongs, maybe even a Nutbush line-dance moment. Bring your dancing shoes (or go barefoot, we don’t mind), bring your mates and let’s make a memory together.”<\/p>\n
