{"id":108599,"date":"2025-07-19T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/?p=108599"},"modified":"2025-07-16T20:01:22","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T10:01:22","slug":"top-longboarders-set-to-compete-on-tweed-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/sport\/top-longboarders-set-to-compete-on-tweed-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"Top longboarders set to compete on Tweed Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE country&#8217;s top longboard surfers will hit the Tweed Coast from July 22 as the Australian Longboard Titles return to the region.<\/p>\n<p>The event forms part of the Australian Surf Championships and will serve as a key qualifier for the ISA World Longboard Championships.<\/p>\n<p>A five-day competition window will open on Monday July 22, with heats expected to run on Saturday and Sunday July 26 and 27, depending on conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The competition will be held across locations from Duranbah to Hastings Point, offering a flexible format to suit the best surf available.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_114064\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114064\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-114064\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/ASC_Longboard_Presen_99056.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-114064\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 300 competitors will take to the water at the Australian Longboard Titles.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Reigning over-40s champion Tony Abood said the event was about more than just competition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s the opportunity to meet your peers, make new friends and be amongst the fraternity,&#8221; Abood said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s fun, it&#8217;s inspiring, and it gives you that opportunity to show your level of surfing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Abood, who lives in Lennox Head, said longboarding had always been a lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I grew up with shortboarding, but longboarding is where my heart lies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_114065\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114065\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-114065\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/ASC_2024_Longboard_1_99108.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-114065\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event may take place at various surf spots along the Tweed Coast including Cabarita Beach.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Family, fraternity and fun is what the longboarding community is about.
