{"id":108760,"date":"2025-07-26T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/?p=108760"},"modified":"2025-07-23T19:29:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T09:29:41","slug":"giant-steps-towards-a-return-to-semi-finals-in-nrrrl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/sport\/giant-steps-towards-a-return-to-semi-finals-in-nrrrl\/","title":{"rendered":"Giant steps towards a return to semi-finals in NRRRL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CRUNCH time looms for the Mullumbimby Giants as they step closer towards the semi-finals in the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League competition.<\/p>\n<p>The Giants are 10th on a congested ladder which saw them knock Bilambil from second to fourth spot after a 30-16 win earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Teams from outside the six, down to 10th, are still a chance of playing in the first week of finals set down for the August 23-24 weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The Giants came close last year, finishing seventh, and are desperate for a chance to play finals after strong performances against teams at the top of the ladder this month.<\/p>\n<p>They took a hit with a 46-12 loss over Marist Brothers and will look to bounce back with four rounds to go.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re in the position where we just need to keep winning now,&#8221; Mullumbimby coach Scott Hogan said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got games coming up against teams that are below us on the ladder, but it&#8217;s such a tight competition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s definitely another couple of games we should have won, every team has their own stories at this time of year, though.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The win against Bilambil has been the highlight of the season so far.<\/p>\n<p>Props Owen Brock and Michael McKinnon have been leading the way along with lock Keenan Ramsden.<\/p>\n<p>The Giants have experience in key positions with former NRL players Jacob Miller and Cody Nelson in the side.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson covers most positions across the forward pack; while Miller returned to his junior club this year after 10 years playing in the English Super League<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_114323\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114323\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-114323\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/07\/514980027_1221995810_84110.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-114323\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Five-eighth Jacob Miller is the key man for the Giants in NRRRL.
