CANIABA sportsground has reopened with new courts and cricket nets, creating a hub for multiple sports in the region.<\/p>\n
The project was funded through council’s capital works program and delivered as phase one of the Caniaba Recreation Facilities Improvement Plan.<\/p>\n
The new facilities include a shared basketball and netball half-court, a shared tennis and pickleball court, and two synthetic cricket nets.<\/p>\n
The additions are designed to attract both junior and senior competition across the Northern Rivers.<\/p>\n
Community feedback identified the replacement of the ageing tennis court as a priority, with residents opting for a multipurpose court and cricket nets to best meet local sporting needs.<\/p>\n
Pickleball, one of the fastest growing sports in the region, is now catered for with marked courts.<\/p>\n
The layout of the new courts allows multiple groups to play at once, reducing wait times and increasing opportunities for social sport. Future upgrades will include swings, outdoor fitness equipment and a children’s slide when further funding becomes available.<\/p>\n
Lismore mayor Steve Krieg said the upgrades reflect council’s focus on delivering quality recreational facilities.<\/p>\n
“Caniaba now has a modern, multi-use space that will serve residents for years to come,” he said.<\/p>\n
“It is fantastic to see the community out here enjoying the courts already. These facilities give people more opportunities to connect, stay active and have fun close to home.<\/p>\n
