A RECORD number of entries have been received for the annual Lennox Head Lions Town and Gown Art Exhibition, which showcases emerging artists and raises funds for local schoolchildren.<\/p>\n
Held at Lennox Head Public School, the event has attracted about 230 artworks this year, including paintings, photography and pottery by artists from across the region.<\/p>\n
Pieces are priced between $200 and $500, with organisers hoping to raise $5000.<\/p>\n
The exhibition runs from today, Friday, September 19, to Sunday, with a range of activities for children and parents throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n
“It’s a big job when all the paintings arrive and we get a lot of help from the Lesley Ryan art group,” Lions event organiser Derek Audus said.<\/p>\n
“They do a lot of the work, and we couldn’t do it without them.<\/p>\n
“There is also about 20 paintings from the kids that go to a silent auction each year. It’s a good way to get them and the parents involved.<\/p>\n
“Each artist can submit up to five entries and we’re expecting about 100 people at the official opening.”<\/p>\n
The school will be open over the weekend from 9am to 4pm, with entry by gold coin donation.<\/p>\n
