OUTBOUND traffic will be banned from Mullumbimby Road from October 13 as council moves into the next stage of upgrade works between The Saddle Road and Gulgan Road.<\/p>\n
The road will remain open to inbound traffic, with emergency services and school buses given full access under traffic signal control.<\/p>\n
Drivers heading out of Mullumbimby will need to use alternative routes such as Myocum Road and Coolamon Scenic Drive, with heavy vehicles directed to Myocum Road.<\/p>\n
Stage two of the project includes drainage work near Uncle Tom’s intersection, a new culvert to improve stormwater flow to Everitts Creek, resurfacing, guardrails, signage, line marking and minor widening within the existing corridor.<\/p>\n
Council said it was not possible to maintain two-way access or operate one lane of alternating traffic because of the narrow corridor and the intersection with Gulgan Road, where traffic queues would create safety hazards.<\/p>\n
Night works were also ruled out due to safety risks, supply restrictions, and cost, which was estimated to add 33 per cent to the project budget.<\/p>\n
The multi-million-dollar upgrade is funded by the NSW and Federal Governments and council, with the aim of improving road safety, drainage and repairing flood-damaged sections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
