{"id":110261,"date":"2025-09-26T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/?p=110261"},"modified":"2025-09-25T16:52:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T06:52:14","slug":"holy-cow-dogs-and-more-fill-jiggi-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/news\/holy-cow-dogs-and-more-fill-jiggi-church\/","title":{"rendered":"Holy cow: dogs and more fill Jiggi church"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JIGGI Uniting Church opened its doors to horses, cows, roosters, cats and dogs for a special service blessing animals alongside their owners.<\/p>\n<p>The service, led by Reverend Denise Savage, filled the church to capacity with more than 80 people inside.<\/p>\n<p>Cats and dogs were allowed in the pews, while cows and other animals gathered outside the building.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had something like this before, it&#8217;s a way to bring interest back to the church by doing something a bit different,&#8221; church member Heather Jeffery said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People really love their animals, and this was a great way for the community to connect.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_116851\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116851\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-116851\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/09\/JigiChurchanimalbles_01387.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-116851\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ron Haigh with his horse Dream were part of the service with dogs (front from left) Bowie, Freddie and Lemon.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were about 40 cows outside and one of the dogs inside was whacking his tail to the beat of the music.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The horse that came was 24 years old, and he was walked down the road by his owner, they were there for the whole day and had a great time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>People who could not attend in person sent photographs of turtles, snakes and other animals, which were blessed on the big screen along with a group of special needs chickens from Brisbane.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_116852\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116852\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-116852\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2025\/09\/JigiChurchanimalbles_09843.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-116852\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dogs were one of the main attractions at the blessing service. Photo: EVANNA KELLY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The church is also preparing for its 120th anniversary service in December.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The church is symbolic of country life, and we&#8217;ve got a lot of younger families moving to the area who attend our monthly service,&#8221; Ms Jeffery said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our Op Shop has really helped in recent years and it&#8217;s a place where everyone is welcome.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This event definitely highlighted that and we&#8217;ve already had people asking if they can be part of the next animal service.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JIGGI Uniting Church opened its doors to horses, cows, roosters, cats and dogs for a special service blessing animals alongside their owners.
