ELTHAM Hotel will install new soundproofing as part of a $5.1 million NSW government boost to live music venues across the state.<\/p>\n
The Northern Rivers pub is one of 39 venues to benefit from the latest round of funding, which aims to help more venues host live music, create opportunities for musicians, and support the night-time economy.<\/p>\n
The grant marks a major step for the hotel after a challenging 18 months that included a review of noise complaints and other restrictions.<\/p>\n
Venue manager Matthew Finch said owner Matt Rabbage had done the hard work in preparing the application.<\/p>\n
“Most of it goes towards extra soundproofing for the venue, so that keeps the neighbours happy,” Finch said.<\/p>\n
“And obviously the punters will get a much better experience when they’re here as well.”<\/p>\n
Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy John Graham said the grants were helping venues face increasing challenges.<\/p>\n
“Too many venues are under pressure from ageing infrastructure, noise restrictions and rising costs,” Graham said.<\/p>\n
“We’re supporting them through those challenges so they can keep bringing communities together, backing local music and driving the night-time economy.<\/p>\n
“Last year we focused on soundproofing grants, this year we’ve tripled the program and increased the ways we’re helping venues get gig-ready.”<\/p>\n
Head of Sound NSW Emily Collins said the grants were helping create better venues and supporting long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n
“From upgrades to lighting and sound systems, accessibility and energy, to improvements in soundproofing, ventilation and air-conditioning, this program is addressing the real-world challenges faced by venue operators \u2013 such as outdated sound systems, accessibility issues and urgent building upgrades,” Collins said.<\/p>\n
“These upgrades are not just cosmetic; they are the difference between a venue closing or staying open.”<\/p>\n
Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin said she welcomed the grant for the Eltham Hotel.<\/p>\n
