“The Seagulls Tweed Heads premises will continue to operate, but they will be conducted by Twin Towns,” Mathew said.<\/p>\n
Currently operating three registered clubs in the Tweed region, as a result of the amalgamation, 62,643 Twin Towns members would become reciprocal members of Seagulls.<\/p>\n
The merger also ensures all community club grants would remain in the region, with Twin Towns having a greater capacity to continue funding sports and club promotions.<\/p>\n
“The decision was not taken lightly. The board of Norths recognises the 27-year history and connection many members have with Seagulls Tweed Heads,” a Norths spokesperson said in a statement to its members.<\/p>\n
“A partner like Twin Towns will herald in a new era for the Tweed Heads-based members of Norths, and this is also a decision in their best interests, both long and short term.”<\/p>\n
Negotiations are continuing regarding the arrangements and the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) necessary to proceed.<\/p>\n
