THE Northern Rivers has 112 new homes as part of a historic $6.6 billion investment into social housing, delivering 8,400 new homes across the state.<\/p>\n
Eleven projects in Alstonville, Casino and Lismore are underway, including 16 new homes in Lismore, with around 20 tenants recently moving in.<\/p>\n
A further six homes are under construction, due for completion by mid-2026.<\/p>\n
Of the 61 new social homes in Casino, 29 will be ready by Christmas, and 32 more homes will be ready by mid next year.<\/p>\n
In Alstonville, 16 modern homes have been recently tenanted, with another 13 to be completed by mid-2026.<\/p>\n
The construction of the new homes provides safe, secure housing for hundreds of people as the region rebuilds and recovers from the 2022 floods.<\/p>\n
It has also created a much-needed boost to the Northern Rivers regional economy, with hundreds of jobs expected over the life of the projects for local trades and industry.<\/p>\n
Minister for the North Coast Janelle Saffin said the North Coast had some of the highest rates of homelessness in NSW.<\/p>\n
“It is our urgent priority to work together to support access to safe, secure and affordable housing across the region,” Saffin said.<\/p>\n
“These homes are an important step in continuing our government’s record investment in public housing that our community needs and deserves.”<\/p>\n
Minister for Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson said the government was getting on with the job of delivering over 100 new homes for people in the Northern Rivers.<\/p>\n
“We know this region is still recovering from the devastating 2022 floods, and delivering new, fit-for-purpose social housing is about giving people security, dignity and a fresh start,” Jackson said.<\/p>\n
