TWEED Coast Tigers have kicked off preseason Aussie Rules training, with new coaches named for its men’s and women’s teams competing in the Gold Coast competition in 2026.<\/p>\n
The women’s squad, which will be aiming for their third premiership in four years, will be led by long-time Tiger Chantelle Brown.<\/p>\n
New senior men’s coach Cam Campbell has already overseen a strong preseason, highlighted by a huge turnout at the team’s first session.<\/p>\n
Sessions have included skills, drills and fun to encourage new players to the sport.<\/p>\n
“Chantelle and Cam are both quality individuals who are equally focused on the people side as well as the football side of our players,” club president Andrew Ryan said.<\/p>\n
“They both have incredible resumes to step up into these positions in 2026, and the club is looking forward to supporting their programs.”<\/p>\n
The men’s team made big improvements last season with a fifth-place finish seeing them return to the semi-finals. There were eight teams in the competition, with the Tigers the only one to be based in New South Wales.<\/p>\n
They are also the only Northern Rivers men’s team to compete in a weekly competition with Ballina, Byron Bay and Lismore playing against each other in a shortened six-week social format last year.<\/p>\n
The women defeated Coolangatta in the grand final after claiming silverware in 2023.<\/p>\n
Both squads put in a solid training block in the lead-up to Christmas and have returned for the rest of the preseason.<\/p>\n
“Returning players, new recruits and aspiring juniors are all invited to get involved in the fitness, fun and mateship,” Ryan said.<\/p>\n
