{"id":113988,"date":"2026-03-18T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/?p=113988"},"modified":"2026-03-11T23:18:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T12:18:08","slug":"samson-challenge-draws-hundreds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/news\/samson-challenge-draws-hundreds\/","title":{"rendered":"Samson challenge draws hundreds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS of competitors put their strength and endurance to the test in the Lismore Samson Fitness Challenge, raising vital funds for sick children in the region.<\/p>\n<p>More than 550 competitors completed 11 obstacles at the 16th running of the hospital fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>Funds raised from this year&#8217;s event will go towards purchasing a ventilator for the Special Care Nursery at Lismore Base Hospital, helping ensure young patients can receive vital care close to home.<\/p>\n<p>Our Kids fundraising coordinator Rebekka Battista said the event has become a major drawcard for the region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Samson is an extraordinary event that attracts people from across New South Wales and South-East Queensland,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It brings the community together and, along with our huge team of volunteers, helps put Lismore on the map for sport and fitness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Competition began with the Samson Solo, where competitors tackled the course individually in heats as they battled for the solo title.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/03\/648947502_9442692849_19493.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"490\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Teams were pushed to the limited as part of 11 grueling challenges on the course. Photo: LORD&#8217;S TAVERNERS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Teams of four then took on a demanding course featuring strength challenges, running, swimming and an outdoor obstacle course, drawing large crowds of spectators.<\/p>\n<p>Challenges included a farmers walk with jerry cans, prowler push, a 130 kg truck tyre flip, burpee challenge, two 2km runs and a 1km swim.<\/p>\n<p>More than 120 volunteers supported the event, which also featured a health expo and recovery zone.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Lord&#8217;s Taverners and volunteers from Southern Cross University oversaw timings and the swim legs at the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Competition in the elite divisions was particularly intense, with top teams including Curtis Fitness Training, Boaty Boys, Sivbuild, BFT Ballina and Jets Elite.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS of competitors put their strength and endurance to the test in the Lismore Samson Fitness Challenge, raising vital funds for sick children in the region.
