{"id":114022,"date":"2026-03-13T13:57:54","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T02:57:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/news\/premier-minns-visits-lismore-as-build-to-rent-housing-project-takes-shape\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T17:30:39","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T06:30:39","slug":"premier-minns-visits-lismore-as-build-to-rent-housing-project-takes-shape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/news\/premier-minns-visits-lismore-as-build-to-rent-housing-project-takes-shape\/","title":{"rendered":"Premier Minns visits Lismore as build-to-rent housing project takes shape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NSW Premier Chris Minns was in Lismore today as the state government reaffirmed its commitment to a build-to-rent housing project, with construction expected to be complete later this year.<\/p>\n<p>The East Lismore development is being delivered by Landcom and will include more than 20 per cent of homes set aside as affordable housing for residents on low-to-moderate incomes.<\/p>\n<p>Minns said the project reflected the government\u2019s commitment to accelerating housing delivery while trialing new models to improve rental security.<\/p>\n<p>Planning is also progressing for the adjoining site redevelopment, which will unlock at least 400 additional homes for the Lismore community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re getting on with the job of building new housing and pioneering an innovative model for the future of housing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuild-to-rent means we can go quicker and we have the finance behind it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFour hundred new dwellings, with people relocating from other parts of Lismore, is a big important measure for the town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The East Lismore development will offer a mix of floorplans from studios through to three-bedroom apartments, providing greater housing diversity in a community still rebuilding following recent natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>Residents will be located close to local shops, schools, parklands and Southern Cross University.<\/p>\n<p>Under the build-to-rent model, the state government will retain ownership of the property to provide long-term rental stability, with a specialist operator managing the site.<\/p>\n<p>Planning is also advancing for redevelopment of an adjoining site, which is expected to unlock at least 400 additional homes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2026\/03\/Build-to-rentEastLis_53071.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"454\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An artist impression of what the new site at East Lismore will look like. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Development Application for Stage 1 of that broader precinct comprising 100 homes is anticipated to be lodged with Lismore City Council before the end of March.<\/p>\n<p>The precinct will include a range of housing options, including lots designed to accommodate homes relocated through the buyback auction program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to make sure we\u2019re seeing progress on the ground,\u201d Minns said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government has committed the funds for a number of years, but it\u2019s been difficult to get the infrastructure in place to work with the planning authorities to ensure we\u2019re building in the right locations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know we have to get cracking when it comes to new builds and we\u2019re committed to that.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NSW Premier Chris Minns was in Lismore today as the state government reaffirmed its commitment to a build-to-rent housing project, with construction expected to be complete later this year.
