A MUSIC muster variety show in Ballina brought seniors, carers and performers together during Seniors Week.<\/p>\n

Dementia Inclusive Ballina hosted the event at Ballina RSL Club, drawing people from across the region.<\/p>\n

The show featured performances from senior and school choirs, a ukulele band and bush poets.<\/p>\n

The event gave people living with dementia and their carers a chance to connect socially while raising awareness about the importance of mental stimulation and community support for older residents.<\/p>\n

“Social connections are what it’s all about, dementia affects the whole family and how older people fit into the community,” Dementia Inclusive Ballina chair Anne Morehead said.<\/p>\n

“Carers don’t always have the chance to get together as a group and let their hair down, so it’s a great event.<\/p>\n

“It opens the door for the community to stay connected and we’re always looking to invite new people to join.”<\/p>\n

Ballina MP Tamara Smith said it is important to recognise the role older people play across the Northern Rivers as part of the NSW Seniors Festival.<\/p>\n

She also called on the NSW Treasury to prioritise funding that strengthens aged care and support services for older people living in regional communities.<\/p>\n

“Regional communities deserve properly funded aged care services, more support for in-home care, and better pathways for older people to remain in their communities as they age,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Our seniors have helped build the communities we enjoy today, and ensuring they have access to appropriate care and support is one of the most important ways we can give back.”<\/p>\n

Dementia Inclusive Ballina runs regular events throughout the year and attracts international speakers to its annual symposium in September.<\/p>\n
