	{"id":114168,"date":"2026-03-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-22T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/?p=114168"},"modified":"2026-03-24T11:18:46","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T00:18:46","slug":"685k-safety-upgrade-planned-for-south-gundarimba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/lismoretimes\/news\/685k-safety-upgrade-planned-for-south-gundarimba\/","title":{"rendered":"$685k safety upgrade planned for South Gundurimba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A MAJOR upgrade is planned for South Gundurimba after Lismore City Council secured nearly $700,000 in joint State and Federal funding aimed at improving road safety.<\/p>\n<p>The project will target the intersection of Coraki Road and Wyrallah Ferry Road, which is considered one of the more hazardous stretches in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Planned works include road widening, the installation of dedicated turning lanes and the addition of a safety barrier.<\/p>\n<p>Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin said the 685,000-dollar funding package would help address long-standing safety concerns at the site.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m pleased to see this intersection at South Gundurimba receiving the much-needed safety works,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The South Gundurimba project is one of 33 initiatives that will be kickstarted from this latest round of funding, which falls under the Road Safety Program and is delivering almost $20 million for improvements on regional roads.<\/p>\n<p>Saffin said the program plays an important role in helping councils deliver targeted safety upgrades on roads identified as high risk.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The 50\/50 funding program focuses on notorious crossings, intersections and key thoroughfares to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes and help protect local road users,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Saffin also noted that Northern NSW drivers should continue to maintain safe driving practices alongside this recent funding announcement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While the Minns and Albanese governments are committed to reducing trauma on our roads, as road users we also need to make safety the top priority every time we get behind the wheel,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Road Safety Program has allocated a total of 125 million dollars to councils across NSW since it was first introduced in early 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A MAJOR upgrade is planned for South Gundurimba after Lismore City Council secured nearly $700,000 in joint State and Federal funding aimed at improving road safety.
