JUNIOR soccer players across the Far North Coast will receive a free football as the region records a surge in participation, particularly among girls.<\/p>\n
It comes as Northern NSW Football celebrates its 19-year partnership with Newcastle Permanent as its major community partner.<\/p>\n
About 11,500 footballs will be distributed, with a focus on entry-level players aged four to seven across Northern NSW Football’s seven member zones.<\/p>\n
Northern NSW Football recorded another year of strong participation in 2025, with 114,232 registered players across the region, surpassing 100,000 for the first time.<\/p>\n
Football Far North Coast and North Coast Football have recorded a 33 per cent increase in female players.<\/p>\n
Overall participation in the Far North Coast is expected to rise beyond 7,000 this year, with more than 2,500 women now playing.<\/p>\n
Junior participants will be hoping to spend more time on the pitch this season after a rain-affected 2025.<\/p>\n
Newcastle Permanent spokesperson Paul Juergens said there are several benefits for children taking part in grassroots competitions.<\/p>\n
“Since 2008, Newcastle Permanent has proudly supported Northern NSW Football’s delivery of community football to thousands of players across the region,” Juergens said.<\/p>\n
“We are excited to help local families to lead healthy, happy and active lives, and see more achievements on the pitch in 2026.”<\/p>\n
Northern NSW Football CEO Peter Haynes said the ongoing partnership helps build the resources needed to run the competition, with a focus on attracting new players.<\/p>\n
“Newcastle Permanent’s support has helped us, and our member zones successfully deliver community football across our region, ensured football remains accessible and that young players start the season with a ball at their feet,” he said.<\/p>\n
