A glamorous Las Vegas-style fundraiser will return to Lennox Head for a second year as the Rafiki Royale charity event aims to raise vital funds for vulnerable children in Kenya.<\/p>\n

The event will be held at the Lennox Head Cultural Centre on Saturday, 20 June.<\/p>\n

It supports Rafiki Mwema, a charity founded by three local women which provides care, safety and housing for girls who have experienced sexual abuse and boys living on the streets in Kenya.<\/p>\n

Last year, businesses and community members raised about $50,000 for the organisation’s programs.<\/p>\n

This year’s event will focus on supporting its sustainability programs and ongoing investment in the self-sufficient farm where about 70 children now live and attend school.<\/p>\n

The event will include live entertainment, casino-style gaming tables, auctions, raffles, food trucks and a sideshow alley with a novelty wedding chapel.<\/p>\n

The charity has also partnered with the Australian Poker League, with guests competing for the chance to win a seat at the APL Million tournament at Southport Sharks on the Gold Coast later this year.<\/p>\n

Board member Kerry Boiko said Rafiki Royale had quickly become a popular fundraiser for the charity and hoped it would continue as an annual event.<\/p>\n

“We’re doing a few things differently this year and we really want to see it become an annual event because the need will always be there,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It’s a chance for people to get dressed up, have a lot of fun and at the same time make a real difference in the lives of children who need ongoing support.”<\/p>\n

The charity operates a 14-acre farm featuring several homes and a school, while employing about 40 Kenyan staff members and being supported by dozens of Australian volunteers.<\/p>\n

Boiko, who has been involved with the organisation for six years, said all fundraising efforts were coordinated in Australia.<\/p>\n

Funds raised also support the Street Kids program, which provides meals and assistance to vulnerable children living in nearby towns.<\/p>\n

“It takes a huge effort and there are so many dedicated volunteers involved in making it happen,” she said.<\/p>\n

“This year funding has helped us build a fish farm and expand the number of chickens and cows on the property.<\/p>\n

“Every ticket helps support the work of Rafiki Mwema and provides safety, care and healing for children who have experienced trauma.”<\/p>\n
