Photo: LisaG Photography.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event honoured Ewen and Petsch, who died when their Marine Rescue vessel capsized while responding to a yacht in distress off the Ballina Bar earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Both men had spent years serving the local community through Marine Rescue.<\/p>\n<p>Richmond MP Justine Elliot said the loss had left the community grieving.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bill and Frank did so without hesitation because they believed in service over self,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_126033\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-126033\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-126033\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/MartinBaileyCliffClo_98246.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-126033\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Martin Bailey, Cliff Clooney and Shane Smallcombe collect donations from the North Coast Show and Shine group. Photo: LisaG Photography.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That is a legacy worthy of our deepest respect and gratitude.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Flowers were laid at the Marine Rescue tower on Lighthouse Parade, where tributes have continued to build since the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>A public memorial is also being planned for later in June, giving the community an opportunity to gather and honour Ewen and Petsch following their funeral services.<\/p>\n<p>The fundraiser was supported by the Rotary Club of Ballina on Richmond and Cherry Street Sports Club.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_126034\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-126034\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-126034\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/GroupCherryStbowling_01636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"316\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-126034\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A big group of people gathered for the end of the event with additional fundraising at Cherry Street Sports Club.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The convoy travelled through town before stopping at the tower before finishing at Cherry Street Sports Club, where the back green was transformed into a display of classic cars and motorcycles.<\/p>\n<p>Hutchinson, who was at the helm of the rescue vessel when it capsized, attended the event and was supported in his wheelchair by his wife Deb.<\/p>\n<p>He is continuing his recovery at home after suffering a broken leg, kneecap injury and rib damage.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_126035\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-126035\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-126035\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/Bikesentering-10_34836.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-126035\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The motorbikes take off on the respect drive.
