AGEING infrastructure at Jack Evans Boat Harbour will be upgraded as part of a $1.47m revitalisation project aimed at improving safety, accessibility and resilience at one of the Tweed’s busiest waterfront destinations.<\/p>\n
Tweed Shire Council has secured $1m through the NSW government’s Crown Reserves Improvement Fund and will contribute the remaining funding to deliver the project.<\/p>\n
The upgrade will include renewing the timber boardwalk with more durable materials, repairing the damaged tessellated concrete steps, improving pathways and accessibility, and enhancing seating, landscaping and shade.<\/p>\n
Mayor Chris Cherry said the investment would help restore the popular foreshore following recent flood and storm damage.<\/p>\n
“Jack Evans Boat Harbour is the heart of our waterfront and a key gathering place for locals and visitors alike,” Cr Cherry said.<\/p>\n
“This funding allows us to restore important infrastructure like the boardwalk and concrete steps, while creating a more vibrant, accessible and resilient foreshore for the future.”<\/p>\n
The works will also include storm and flood resilience measures designed to strengthen the precinct against future extreme weather.<\/p>\n
The council’s general manager, Troy Green, said the project would benefit both the community and the local economy.<\/p>\n
“The upgraded foreshore will attract more visitors, support local businesses and provide a safer, more welcoming space for everyone,” Green said.<\/p>\n
“It will also strengthen Tweed Heads as the gateway to NSW, something that we have already been focusing on through the Tweed Heads CBD revitalisation project.<\/p>\n
“We are working hard to create a destination that reflects the pride of our community.”<\/p>\n
Member for Tweed Geoff Provest welcomed the funding.<\/p>\n
“I am pleased that further funding has been secured to upgrade and revitalise the Jack Evans Boat Harbour foreshore in Tweed Heads, ensuring this much-loved community asset continues to meet the needs of local residents and the many visitors who enjoy it each year,” Provest said.<\/p>\n
Jack Evans Boat Harbour attracts an estimated 1.9 million visitors each year and hosts about 40 events annually.<\/p>\n
More than 1,000 people contributed feedback to the precinct’s long-term planning, with strong community support for improvements to ageing infrastructure, accessibility, safety and public amenities.<\/p>\n
Construction is expected to begin in mid-2026 and completion is anticipated in 2027.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
