THREE very different gardens owned by members of the Australian Plant Society Heathcote (APSH) opened to the public last weekend.

All proceeds from the day went towards the Heathcote Native Garden project.

“It was a great weekend,” APSH secretary Tania Biagioni said.

“The weather was perfect, and our members showcased a wonderful, diverse selection of gardens.

“At our first garden, the Dwyers displayed a pristine two acres, after gradually reintroducing native plants to the front garden over the last two years.

“The back has native plants and features a wonderful grandchildren’s play area.

“The second garden was created by Nan Oates. Her journey started with overgrown palms and yucca, and out-of-control cape weed.

“She planted bird-attracting natives along with fruit trees and a veggie garden.

“Nan is an amazing senior who single-handedly transformed her garden in just three years.”

The third garden was an eight-hectare bush block.

“Owned by Julia and Leon… the house is surrounded by a labyrinth of paths and garden beds, mostly natives, designed to provide habitat for birds, lizards and small wildlife,” Ms Biagioni said.

“Many visitors explored the nearby bush to see orchids and other indigenous plants.

“The APSH would like to thank the members who opened their gardens and all the visitors who supported us on the day.”

The APSH will hold its annual Flower Show and Plant Sale on 12 April 2025.
