WHEN Dariusz Szymanski talks about his new workshop and jewellery business in Heathcote, his excitement is palpable.

The Polish-born jeweller has more than 40 years’ experience in making jewellery.

“Everyone knows me as Darek, and I am proud to bring my experience to our local community right here in Heathcote,” he said.

“I went to jewellery school in Poland when I was 14 and spent my first ten years crafting fine pieces in Europe, perfecting a wide range of techniques and services.”

Mr Szymanski moved to Australia with his wife Basia and five-year-old daughter

thirty years ago.

Their son was born in Australia.

“Prior to moving to Heathcote I worked in Moonee Ponds for 10 years as a master jeweller for Micheli Jewellery, creating hand crafted unique pieces for a range of clients,” he said.

“Ten years ago, we drove to Rochester to look at a property we were interested in buying but found it had been sold two days earlier.

“On the way home, we stopped in Heathcote for coffee, and I fell in love with some land and the town.

“Now it’s time for me to slow down a little and create more of the pieces I want to make.

“Our new home is being built on the land and I am making a workshop and display gallery. I am doing it all myself except for the electrical work.

“Basia is still working in Melbourne as a carer but will eventually join me full time.”

Mr Szymanski has lots of ideas for future projects especially utilising amber bought five years ago on a trip back to Poland.

“I also want to craft items from some Buloke timber, the hardest wood commercially available,” he said.

“If anyone wants something special and unique, an heirloom restored or simply wants an idea brought to life, I’m here to help.

“From custom design work, precious and semi-precious metals and everything in between, I’ve seen and done it all.”

While the custom workshop is being completed, bookings are by appointment only via the website heathcotejewellery.com.au or phone 0437 866 606.
