HEATHCOTE music lovers are set to host the Heartcote Ukulele Festival – One Day, One Stage, Big Heart – a tiny festival, free to all who enjoy sharing music.
It will be held on Sunday 2 November at The Watering Hole.
Organisers Amanda, Dave and Libby say they at an age where the making of music is more and more out of the reach of many Victorians, they are keen to ensure everyone feels they have a voice at Heartcote.
“The name Heartcote was chosen to represent the fact that we are right in the heart of Victoria,” said Amanda Collins.
“We already know lots of Melburnians find Heathcote a convenient halfway stop before they continue on to the Murray, and so many places are about an hour from here.
“It’s going to be a huge day for uke in Heathcote.
“We have original songwriters travelling to play in our songwriters’ hour.
“Our stage will also be a showcase for large and small community groups from across Central Victoria.”
The event is hosted by The Watering Hole and Heathcote Community House, and sponsored by Pawsitive Healing, Bat City Music, and a generous mystery sponsor (yet to be announced).
“The day will also feature live strum-alongs for uke players of all abilities, open mic sessions and a raffle, with proceeds going to the Heathcote Community House building fund,” said Ms Collins.
“There will also be opportunities in October for rusty locals to sharpen up their uke playing before the big day.
“Information on these sessions, and the most up-to-date information on the day itself can be found at heartcote.wordpress.com as well as on Facebook at Heathcote Ukulele Group (H.U.G.)
