A whole new world for young dancers

DANCE classes are now on offer at Costerfield Hall for young people in Heathcote and the surrounding area.
Fox Studio commenced classes last week for anyone from two years old up to 18.
Dance teacher Darian Fox has been dancing since she was six years old and wanted to offer the opportunity to young people in the area.
“It meant so much to me growing up and I wanted to share it with local kids,” she said.
“There aren’t many activities around and I hoped there would be some local kids who would love dancing as much as I do.”
Ms Fox competed in many dance competitions over the years in both group competitions and solo dances.
“I’ve won medals and ribbons ranging from first placings to honourable mentions,” she said.
“I also experienced being able to dance in a flash mob in an event in the city, danced in the Moomba festival one year and have done many special events.
“I just love dancing and really want to share that love with the younger generation of kids.
“To see them smiling and having fun at the first class was already a huge accomplishment.”
When Ms Fox asked the class to choose a favourite song, five-year-old Dahlia immediately suggested A Whole New World from the animated film Aladdin.
Dahlia’s mother Charmaine said her daughter loved dancing and singing at home and the new classes are a great opportunity.
“Dahlia couldn’t wait to get here,” she said.
Ms Fox said that although she had received a great response when advertising the classes, she wasn’t sure how the venture would turn out.
“I was nervous for classes to commence but once the first class started it all just came so naturally,” she said.
“I got the kids really involved in the classes with them picking music to play and creating dances to their favourite songs.
“The feedback from the families who came to the first classes last week was a huge confidence boost.”
Ms Fox lives in Heathcote with husband Rob and two-year-old son Harvey.
“Rob has been a huge support in this journey and in my dancing career,” she said.
“I actually danced all through my pregnancy with Harvey and the night I went into labour at 40 weeks and four days, I had just attended a dance class.
“Harvey was very stubborn and didn’t seem to want to come into the world, so I thought I’d go to dancing.
“And just like that I went into labour an hour later.
“Harvey already loves dancing and I love that I can share something I love with my family.”
Dance classes are held at Costerfield Hall every Wednesday and Friday afternoon, starting at 5pm.
