EMERGING artist Jessie Bleakley doesn’t shy from a challenge.

Last year she completed her RMIT bachelor of fine arts at home while pregnant and with an energetic toddler for company.

Now she’s jumped into organising a solo gallery show, Quietude, from scratch.

“It would have been easy for me to wait to do a solo show with a curator,” she said.

“It’s been a challenge to do it all myself, but it’s also giving me a real understanding of what’s involved and I feel really proud.

Quietude showcases work she describes as “definitely intriguing.”

“It has layers of texture and there’s definitely an aesthetic of nature as an inspiration” she said.

“It’s very bright and colourful, and regardless of whether the pieces are sculpture or textiles or mixed media I believe that my aesthetic translates between those mediums.

“The artwork is inspired by the shapes and details found within flowers, leaves, feathers and other objects found within nature.”

Quietude is at Rood Henry’s Art Space 10am to 4pm, Saturday, 21 January to Thursday, 26 January at 166 High Street, Heathcote.
