This alarming finding comes after the Committee conducted over twenty hearings across the country and received more than 1,500 submissions and responses to its community survey.

The Final Report from the Committee made nine crucial recommendations across four key areas: economic and fiscal policy, supermarket regulation, housing and construction, and charities and not-for-profits.

These recommendations highlight the urgent need for action to address the cost of living crisis that is affecting so many Australians.

As I travel around Bendigo, the message from locals is clear: the cost of living is their number one concern. The evidence now supports what we have been feeling for some time – Australians are poorer under the current government.

Energy bills are climbing month after month, and the weekly grocery shop costs more while providing less. High inflation, high interest rates, and high energy bills are all contributing to the financial strain on households.

In addition to these challenges, Bendigo is facing a severe housing crisis. Many residents are struggling to find affordable housing, leading to increased homelessness and financial stress. The high cost of rent and property prices is making it difficult for families to secure stable housing.

Furthermore, the rising cost of healthcare, particularly doctor visits, is another significant burden on our community. Access to affordable medical care is essential, yet many are finding it increasingly difficult to afford necessary treatments and consultations.

Despite promises from the Prime Minister that Australians would be better off under Labor, the reality is starkly different. The people of Bendigo have been left behind in this cost of living crisis, and it is high time the Albanese Government took meaningful action to provide sustainable relief.

The Nationals are committed to fighting for the people of Bendigo and ensuring that their voices are heard in Canberra. We need a government that will step up and address these pressing issues, not one that leaves our communities struggling.

It’s time for real solutions to the cost of living crisis. The people of Bendigo deserve better.
